BJP President JP Nadda's convoy was allegedly attacked with stones and bricks while on its way to Diamond Harbour in Kolkata yesterday.
Several BJP leaders including national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya were injured when stones were pelted at their vehicles.
BJP leader Sambit Patra also alleged that he along with some other leaders were attacked while they were travelling in a car. Protestors also attempted to block the road from where Mr Nadda's convoy was passing.
The assault was telecasted live by several Bengali news channels. Vehicles of some media houses were also damaged. West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar has expressed concern over the incident.
Later, speaking at a public meeting at South 24 Paraganas in West Bengal, Mr
Nadda alleged that anarchy is prevailing under Mamata Banerjee led TMC government in West Bengal. He said, administration has collapsed in the state.
Home Minister Amit Shah has condemned the attack on BJP President J P Nadda's convoy in West Bengal saying that the Centre is taking this incident very seriously.
In a series of tweets, Mr Shah said, the state government will have to answer to the peace loving people of West Bengal for this sponsored violence. He alleged that West Bengal has entered into an era of anarchy and darkness under TMC rule.
The Minister also said the way political violence has been institutionalised in the state during TMC rule is sad and worrisome for people who believe in democratic values.
