Justice Sanjiv Khanna will take the oath as the 51st Chief Justice of India today. President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office to Justice Khanna at a special ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the morning. Justice Sanjiv Khanna succeeds Justice D Y Chandrachud, who demitted office yesterday. He will have a tenure of around six months.
 
Born on 14th May 1960, Justice Sanjiv Khanna was enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1983. He practiced in the District Courts at the TisHazari complex in Delhi



and later in the Delhi High Court and different tribunals. Justice Khanna was appointed as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court in 2005 and was made a permanent judge in 2006.

He was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court in January 2019. Justice Sanjiv Khanna has been part of several landmark Supreme Court judgements, such as upholding abrogation of Article 370, scrapping the Electoral Bonds scheme, and upholding the use of electronic voting achines (EVMs).
