Kamal Haasan's party ready to contest bypolls to 20 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu

The thespian Kamal Haasan has said, his party, the Makkal Neethi Mayyam is prepared to contest the forthcoming bye-elections to all twenty Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu. 

Speaking on his birthday on Wednesday in Chennai, Mr Hassan said he would try to sanitize the electoral system by doing away with graft for votes. 

He remarked that he is a political tool of the people and denied that he is playing into the



hands of any other party.

The Election Commission is expected to announce the schedule for the bye-elections any time for the twenty seats that have fallen vacant. 

The vacancies arose due to the disqualification of 18 AIADMK MLAs loyal to the ousted leader TTV Dhinakaran and the demise of two other legislators including the DMK patriarchal leader M Karunanidhi.
