Congress leader Kamal Nath has tendered his resignation as general secretary in charge of Punjab in view of controversy over his alleged involvement in 1984 riots. In a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi, Mr Nath said, he has been hurt by development in the past few days where unnecessary controversy has been created around 1984 riots.
Mr Nath requested Mrs Gandhi
to relieve him of Punjab charge to ensure attention is not diverted from real issues. Kamal Nath said till 2005, not a single public statement or an FIR was made against him and the Nanavati Commission after full investigation, absolved him. PTI quoting Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala reports that the Congress President has accepted Nath's resignation.
