Karnataka Assembly resumes discussion on confidence motion

Karnataka Assembly has resumed discussion on the confidence motion seeking to prove majority of the Congress- JDS coalition government in the state. 

The motion was moved by the Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy yesterday morning. 

The house was adjourned without taking a vote on the motion till today morning as the Assembly witnessed pandemonium several times.

After this, a BJP delegation headed by Jagadish Shettar submitted a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai Vala requesting him to direct the Speaker to go ahead with the trust vote. 

Later the Governor wrote to the Chief Minister to prove the majority on the



floor of the Assembly before 1.30 P.M. today. 

The JDS-Congress coalition government has been reduced to a minority after 16 rebel MLAs of the coalition submitted their resignation to the speaker.

Two independent MLAs also have withdrawn their support, thereby bringing down the strength of the coalition to 101. 

BJP with the strength of 107 including two Independents is the single largest party in the House. 

Meanwhile, JDS and Congress have issued whips to their MLAs warning that anti-defection law will be applied on those who absent themselves during the trust vote.
