Belagavi: The political temperature is set to soar as the Karnataka Legislature gears up for its annual winter session in Belagavi, commencing on Dec 4.
Both the Congress and the BJP-JD(S) alliance are rolling up their sleeves to display their might.
Traditionally hosted in Belagavi annually, this session would witness some of the 'firsts.' While it marks the first session in Belagavi since the Congress government assumed office, it is also the first session following the election of the BJP's leader of the opposition and state president. Additionally, it signifies the maiden session post the formation of the BJP-JD(S) alliance in Karnataka.
As the BJP compiles a list of alleged failures and unfulfilled promises by the Congress, intended for discussion during the session, the Congress is gearing up to counter with equal fervor.
The primary issue expected to dominate the BJP's agenda is the state's drought situation. Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka has already declared the issue to be the first on the agenda.
BJP leaders have criticized the state government for its alleged failure to compensate farmers adequately, accusing the Congress of turning a blind eye to the citizens' predicaments. The BJP is set to demand immediate compensation for farmers and advocate for the waiver of their loans.
In response, the Congress is poised to direct its criticism towards the central government. Leaders from the party are expected to highlight the BJP-led government's reluctance to release funds for the state, despite correspondence from
the state government. Furthermore, Congress leaders are likely to question the effectiveness of the state's MPs in conveying the gravity of the situation to the central government.
Adding to the anticipated political fireworks, the BJP is set to target Housing and Minorities Welfare Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan for his controversial remarks. BJP State President BY Vijayendra had demanded resignation of Zameer for his 'communal coloring' of the speaker's post. BJP is likely to strongly oppose Zameer's participation in the session.
Another focal point for the BJP during the session is likely to be the recent Cabinet decision to revoke the authorization granted by the previous BJP government for a CBI investigation into the disproportionate assets case against DK Shivakumar.
The opposition parties are also expected to raise concerns about Siddaramaiah's son's video clip, where he is allegedly instructing government officials.
Additionally, issues such as the KEA scam, confusion surrounding guarantee schemes, unfulfilled promises, alleged failures of the Congress government, and corruption charges are likely to feature prominently in discussions.
With all eyes on Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka and State BJP President BY Vijayendra, both MLAs, as they engage with the Congress, anticipation also surrounds HD Kumaraswamy's approach, having recently joined forces with the BJP. Congress leaders, equally prepared, aim to demonstrate unity and effectively address the challenges raised by the opposition.
