Pro-Kannada organisations have called for Karnataka bandh today over Mahadayi river water sharing row. Demanding intervention of Prime Minister to resolve the dispute with Goa, Kannada federation head Vatal Nagaraj has demanded early resolution of the dispute to provide Mahadayi river water to northern districts of the state.
Private schools, colleges and industries have announced holiday today due to the Karnataka bandh. Examinations of Bangaluru University and Visvesvaraya Technological university are postponed. Skeletal public transport service is plying on the road. The Karnataka State Government Employees Association has supported
the bandh.
The IT companies in Bengaluru have asked their employees to work from home. A few autorickshaw associations have supported the bandh.
However, Metro service is functioning for the convenience of people which is leading to heavy rush. The private taxi associations have said that depending on the situation they will operate their services today.
The pro-Kannada organisations will take out processions and bike rallies from Town Hall to Freedom Park in Bengaluru. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has requested everyone to observe peaceful bandh.
