Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday instructed the Deputy Commissioners of rain-affected Districts to be vigilant. Holding a video conference with Deputy Commissioners of rain-hit districts, the Chief Minister said that there should not be any lapse in carrying out relief and rehabilitation efforts. He pointed out there were reports on the lapses in some places while recording damages.
He said that relief data must be based on the ground realities and asked the DCs to visit rain hit areas. Mr. Bommai also directed the Deputy Commissioners to issue proper
instructions to Tahsildars in recording the damages that have occurred this month. He said that a joint survey must be conducted immediately and relief disbursed in this month itself.
According to the revenue department, heavy downpour in this month has killed 13 people, damaged standing crops over 6,279 hectares and damaged 3,309 houses. There are 1330 persons sheltered in five relief camps. Between June 1st to September 30th, the natural calamity had damaged 48,485 houses and the Government has paid compensation for damages to 42,661 houses.
