Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa will take up aerial survey of flood-affected areas today. After landing in Ballary, he will fly over flooded areas of Yadgir, Raichur, Bagalkote and Vijayapura. Thereafter in another sortie, he will conduct an aerial survey in Bagalkote and Belagavi followed by a visit to villages marooned near Athani in Belgavi district.
The Chief Minister conducted a video conference with district officials yesterday. He has issued instructions to take up rescue and relief measures on a war footing. Mr.Yediyurappa has informed that he is leaving for Delhi after the visit to flood-affected areas today evening to draw the attention of Central Government and Members of Parliament from the state on the need for disaster relief funds.
As per the met department, major catchment area for Krishna basin, will continue to receive heavy rainfall for the next 5 days. As per Karnataka Disaster Management Centre, heavy rains are likely
over North Interior Karnataka districts especially over Belagavi, Bagalkote and Kalaburagi districts till August 6th. Maharashtra is releasing around 2.1 lakh cusecs of water every day, the water level in the Krishna basin is expected to increase by four feet. The Joint rescue teams comprising of Fire and Emergency, SDRF, NDRF and Army have been pre-deployed in vulnerable locations. Whatsapp group has been created to constantly monitor the flood situation and for quick decision making. Round the clock Control room is activated and numbers are widely communicated to general public.
Senior officers are camping in vulnerable villages, Boats and rescue equipment are deployed in vulnerable areas. According to a preliminary estimate, floods have damaged 50 km roads and Gutter and 2571 electrical poles in Belagavi district. As many as 1,049 people in six villages have been affected by flooding in Raichur district.
