Karnataka Medical Education minister Dr. K Sudhakar has informed that the expert committee appointed to find out the reason for growing cases of black fungus has submitted its preliminary report.

According to which it is advised to hospitals to use distilled water in the Humidifiers.

The minister said that the Committee feels that the use of tap water in the humidifiers is leading to the growth of black fungus or Mucormycosis fungal infection in the Covid

patients.

Dr. Sudhakar informed that fungal growth is witnessed in cannula and other equipment used in the ICU.

Hence he said that the Expert committee has recommended that the equipment must be sanitised for every new patient admitted in the ICUs.

On the measures to reduce the spread of Coronavirus in rural areas, the minister said that instructions are given that Covid positive patients must be shifted to Covid Care Centres instead of home isolation.
