Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojari and Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel flagged off the maiden run of two Vistadome coaches attached to Mangaluru Junction-Yeshwantpur Weekly Express Special on Sunday.
The train was flagged off in Mangaluru in Dakshin Kannada district of Karnataka.
The Vistadome coaches were introduced by the Ministry of Railways to promote tourism.
The two tri-weekly and one weekly train services between Bengaluru and Mangaluru pass through enchanting Western Ghats via Sakleshpur-Subramanya Road Ghat section.
The scenic location with rivers, streams, water falls, mountains, valleys, gorges, lush greenery, tunnels and monsoon rains can be viewed through Vistadome Coaches manufactured by Integral
Coach Factory in Chennai.
These coaches have glass rooftops with anti glare screens offering clear views of the sky.
For the benefit of the tourists travelling in these special coaches, there is CCTV surveillance provided for safety.
The coach has an LED display, oven and refrigerator, mini pantry, luggage shelves, and mobile charging sockets on each seat.
It is also equipped with automatic sliding doors and bio-toilets.
The seats have foldable snack tables and lounge at the far end of the coach with a large viewing window.
The coaches also have GPS based public address systems and Braille signage for the physically challenged. Each coach has 44 seats.
