Bengaluru: On Saturday afternoon, exactly a week after the Congress swept the Assembly elections in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah will be sworn in as Chief Minister for his second term. Congress state president DK Shivakumar will take oath as deputy chief minister. Eight legislators will also be sworn in with the Chief Minister, according to Congress sources.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge approved the first list of eight Cabinet Ministers including G Parameshwara, K H Muniyappa, K J George, M B Patil, Satish Jarkiholi, Priyank Kharge, Ramalinga Reddy and B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan.
Priyank Kharge is son of Mallikarjun Kharge while MB Patil is senior Lingayat
leader.
"Today is the swearing-in ceremony of the CM, Deputy CM, and eight MLAs who will take oath as the ministers (in the state cabinet), everyone is attending it. I am going for the same. It is a matter of delight that a new and strong Congress government has come to power in Karnataka. This will benefit Karnataka and it is creating a good environment in the country," Kharge told ANI while talking to the media before leaving for Karnataka.
The swearing-in ceremony will be a show of strength of the Opposition in view of their united efforts towards taking on the ruling BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
