Karnataka has prepared a roadmap to tackle the possible third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that is said to affect the children more. Karnataka Woman and Child Welfare Department has come forward to take up measures to protect the children from COVID virus by improving their immune system.

The Health Department has decided to open a pediatric ward in every district of the state. In a bid to cope up with the likely third wave of the pandemic, the State Government has decided to revamp infrastructure in district hospitals. Apart from paediatric ward, ICUs will also come up in the district hospitals.

To



improve the immune system among Children, the Women and Child Welfare Department has decided to take special care of children who are malnourished. According to Department figures 4.47 lakh children are malnourished and among them 7,751 children are severely malnourished. The department is strengthening its nutrition programme to enhance the nutrition level of the children.

Due to COVID infection 43 children are orphaned. The government has taken such children under their care and assurance of their education and other basic needs under Bala Seva Programme and Bala Hithaishi Plan.
