Construction of the
Kaleswaram irrigation project on the Godavari river in Karimnagar district will
begin on May 2. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will lay the foundation
stone for the project.
As a precursor to this, the state government on Friday gave administrative sanction of Rs 7,998 crore under which three lift systems with pump houses would be constructed.
Another Rs 3524 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of head regulator from Medigadda barrage to Annaram barrage to lift 160 tmc ft of water from Godavari to Sripada Yellampalli project.
The second lift
system and head regulator would be erected from Sundilla barrage to Sripada
Yellampalli project to lift 160 tmc ft of water from Godavari. The total cost
of the project
is Rs 2,334 crore.
The third lift system would be constructed from Annaram barrage to Sundilla to lift 160 tmc ft of water from Godavari to Sripada Yellampalli at the cost of Rs 2,140 crore.
Principal Secretary (Irrigation) S K Joshi said that pump house with metallic volute pumps, including supply, erection, testing and commissioning of electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical works with allied works , pressure main, delivery cistern, approach channel and gravity canal would be constructed under the lift system at each project.
Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) is the second major lift irrigation project after the Palamuru- Ranga Reddy Lift irrigation project taken up in Mahbubnagar district. The project will bring nearly 16 lakh acres under ayacut, according to an Irrigation Department official.
