In Kerala, in yet another continuing saga of human-animal conflict in the state, an elderly tribal couple was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Aralam Farm in Kannur district yesterday. The mishap took place when the couple were returning after collecting cashew nuts. Protesting locals initially did not allow the bodies to be removed from the

spot.

However, the bodies were shifted to Pariyaram Medical College around midnight. The UDF and the BJP have called for a hartal in the Aralam Panchayat today in protest against the increasing incidents of human-animal conflict in the region. An all-party meeting has also been convened to discuss the issue.
