Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government imposed stricter restrictions in the wake of Omicron spread in the state. It was decided to limit the maximum number of people who can attend weddings and funeral ceremonies to 50. Meetings, ceremonies, and other functions should be mostly conducted online. 

It was further decided to complete the Covid vaccination for students over the age of 15 by this week itself. However, it was informed that the Schools and Colleges in the State will not be closed now. The decisions were taken at the Covid review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan



yesterday.
 
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also suggested that awareness campaigns on Omicron infection should be conducted widely throughout the state. Meanwhile, Kerala confirmed 17 more cases of omicron infection last day taking the total Omicron infection in the State to 345. 

Kerala also reported surge in Covid cases as it confirmed 5,797 new COVID-19 positive cases last day. 19 deaths were also confirmed due to COVID yesterday, taking the total death toll to 49,757 and 2796 recoveries were also reported today. At present, there are 37,736 active cases in the state.
