Kerala High Court dismisses plea challenging travel restrictions

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala High Court yesterday dismissed two writ petitions that sought directions to the Karnataka government to remove restrictions imposed by it for daily commuters from Manjeswaram in Kerala and Dakshina Karnataka districts.

The petitioners had also sought relief from Karnataka insisting the possession of mandatory RT-PCR certificate, in addition to the Covid vaccination certificate for entering the state. They claimed  that these measures curtailed the fundamental rights of the people of Kerala.

The



Karnataka government had issued circulars imposing restrictions for people from Kerala entering the state, in view of the rising Covid cases.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly dismissed the petitions stating that no part of cause of action with regard to the circulars issued by Karnataka would arise in Kerala. The court also noted that the petitioners failed to establish territorial jurisdiction of the Kerala High Court in interfering with the circulars issued by Karnataka.
