A Kia Seltos was involved in a massive accident on the Chhindwara-Nagpur highway on June 11 and reportedly split into two parts. Numerous images of the mishap, in which three people were killed, are doing rounds on the internet.
According to reports, the Seltos had five occupants. It collided with a bridge when its driver tried to save a motorcyclist who suddenly came in front. While the three rear-seat passengers died on the spot, the driver and co-driver sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a hospital.
Now, the splitting of the Kia Seltos into two parts has become a major talking point. People on social media are even questioning the build quality and safety of the SUV.
However, it is not right to speculate here as most modern cars are built in a manner where they take maximum impact on themselves and sometimes even split open.
Another point of view is that the Seltos might have been cut open by rescue teams to get occupants out. But, according to police, the SUV split into two parts after hitting the
bridge.
The Kia Seltos was launched in India in August 2019. Since its introduction, it has been one of the largest-selling vehicles in the country. Kia India recently introduced the updated Seltos in the price range of Rs 9.95 lakh to Rs 17.65 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The SUV is offered in seven trims and 16 variants. It gets standard safety features like driver and passenger airbags, front seat belts with pre-tensioner and load limiter, speed-sensing door lock, impact sensing door unlock, ABS (antilock braking system) with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) and rear parking sensors.
The Seltos comes with three engine options -- Smartstream 1.5-litre petrol (115PS/144Nm), Smartstream 1.4-litre T-GDI petrol (140PS/242Nm) and 1.5-litre CRDi diesel (115PS/250Nm). The Smartstream 1.5-litre petrol motor can be paired with a 6-speed MT, IVT or 6-speed iMT (intelligent manual transmission). The Smartstream 1.4-litre T-GDI petrol mill has 6-speed MT and 7-speed DCT choices, while the 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engine is offered with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT options.
