Krishnaiah meets PM seeking quota for BCs

New Delhi: National BC Welfare Association President R. Krishnaiah, a YSRC Rajya Sabha member from AP, on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and submitted a representation seeking the introduction of a Bill in Parliament to provide 50 per cent political reservations for BCs.

Krishnaiah, in a statement, said that in his 30-minute meeting he had requested the Prime Minister to create a separate Union Ministry to handle issues relating to the Backward Classes community and constitute a BC Corporation to provide funds under subsidy and hold a caste census for the community.

"BC communities constitute at least 56 per cent BCs of the population but only 14 per cent of them are in politics,  nine per cent in government jobs, five



per cent in private jobs and two per cent in the judiciary. The government must consider providing reservations for BCs as per their population," Krishnaiah said in his representation.

He asked Prime Minister to consider in holding a caste census for BC communities to get data on their population. Krishnaniah said. "The government focuses on counting the number of animals but fails to do a caste census of BCs," he said.

Since Independence, the BC communities have been facing issues and no political party has given them priority, Krishnaiah said. The government must bring an Act along the lines of ST, SC Prevention of Atrocities Act to protect the rights of the BC community," Krishnaiah alleged.
