Silvassa: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, said that his party has only one MLA in West Bengal, but has united the opposition against the BJP in West Bengal. Commenting on the opposition rally call by West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mamata Banerjee, PM Modi, in Silvassa said that his actions 'against corruption' have infuriated people who have in turn 'formed a Mahagathbandhan' against the BJP.
Modi's comments came at a time when a united opposition including the likes of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu, former ministers under the NDA government Arun Shourie and Yashwant Sinha, DMK leader MK Stalin, gathered at Brigade Parade ground in Kolkata in a show-of-strength at a grand rally.
"This 'Ganthbandhan' is not against Modi but against the people of India. Currently, they are not even properly together and already that have
started bargaining for their share," Modi said at a rally in Silvassa. "My actions against corruption have infuriated some people. It's but natural for them to get angry as I've prevented them from looting public money. Consequently, they have now formed an alliance called Mahagathbandhan," he said. Earlier, he inaugurated Larsen and Toubro's (L&T) gun facility in Hazira, Surat.
Referring to the deaths of BJP workers in the state, Modi said, "Jab loktantra ka gala ghotne wale loktantra ko bachane ki baat karte toh desh ke munh se nikalta hai 'wah kya baat'. (The ones who murder democracy talk about saving the democracy)," he said. Earlier, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that it was time the opposition parties united to 'save democracy'. I appeal that we all unite to save the Constitution & democracy. They (BJP) are helping their corporate friends. They promised to provide 2 crore jobs every year, where are the jobs?
