In Ladakh, in an effort to bolster disaster preparedness in the region, extensive mock drills on earthquake response and Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) management were successfully conducted yesterday in the Drass and Zanskar sub-divisions of Kargil.
The earthquake mock drill was organised with the participation of key stakeholders, including the civil administration, law enforcement, and the Indian Army. The drill was aimed at enhancing the preparedness and coordination of these agencies
and educating the local population on effective response measures during seismic events.
These drills have demonstrated the critical importance of preparedness in disaster-prone regions like Kargil. The residents of Drass and Zanskar actively participated in these drills, practicing evacuation techniques and emergency response protocols. The drills highlighted the unpredictability of natural disasters and the need for continuous readiness.
