Today is the last day of filing of nominations for the forthcoming Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. So far, 195 candidates have filed their nominations.
Scrutiny will be held tomorrow, with Thursday being the last day of withdrawal. The 68-member Assembly will go to polls in a single phase on the 9th of next month. The counting of votes will be taken up on 18th December.
The Election Commission has said, static and mobile surveillance teams will keep a close eye on the flow of cash during the polls. State Chief Electoral Officer Pushpendra Rajput has appealed to people to carry documentary evidence in support of possession or transportation of cash in excess of 50,000 rupees. He said, carrying undisclosed cash would be kept under close surveillance and
necessary action would be taken.
BJP has already announced candidates for all seats, while Congress declared candidates for remaining 9 seats yesterday. The final list of congress has created dissidence in party cadres. The party leaders are not happy over candidature of Deepak Rathore in Theog constituency who is said to be choice of Rahul Gandhi.
Sources said that some senior leaders have conveyed their sentiments to high command in Delhi in this regard. The local congress leaders in Shimla, Nalagarh, Kasumpti, Naachan and Kutlehar constituencies are also opposing the official candidates of party. Similarly, BJP is also facing dissidence in some constituencies and several rebel leaders from both sides can file their nominations today.
