In Andhra Pradesh, the agitating Kapunadu leader Mudragada Padmanabham, called off his indefinite hunger strike on Monday on the assurances given by the State government. Mr Padmanabham called off his fast on assurances by a team of Telugu Desam leaders, including Ministers, sent by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Both Mr Padmanabham and his wife called off their indefinite hunger strike at their residence in Kirlampudi in East Godavari district on the fourth day.
The representatives assured Mr Padmanabham that the state government has agreed to some of his demands while others will be considered
positively.
State Labour Minister K. Atchannaidu and Telugu Desam Party State president Kimidi Kala Venkatrao assured the Kapu that the government would release Rs. 500 crore for the Kapu Welfare Finance Corporation in the present financial year and allocate Rs. 1,000 crore every year from the next budget.
They said, commission’s report on inclusion of Kapus in the Backward Category list would be submitted before seven months, and cases would not be booked against innocent people in relation to the Tuni violence on January 31st.
The TDP leaders said, Mr Padmanabham has accepted these proposals of the government and the issue has been settled.
