Kurnool: A leopard was found dead near Rudra Park in the Srisailam Forest area, raising suspicions of poaching. Devotees who spotted the carcass on a wall alerted local officials. Upon inspection, forest officials discovered the decomposed body and stated that the death appeared to be natural, though the exact cause is yet to be determined.
The Srisailam Forest Range Officer clarified that all body parts were intact, dismissing speculations that the leopard’s claws had been
removed. He added that all necessary formalities were completed, and the carcass was buried as per standard operating procedures. In a separate incident a week ago, a leopard died after falling into an electric trap set by hunters for wild boars in the Kolukula Beat area of the Yerragondapalem forest range in Prakasam district. Cases of leopards falling prey to speeding vehicles, electric fences, and poaching remain a concern in the Nallamala forest region.
