17 people, out of which 12 were labourers working at a construction
site in the basement, were inside the building when the accident took place. Six
labourers died, while.Two of the injured have been taken to Sector-32 hospital,
one is admitted in Sector-16, while the others have been rushed to Chandigarh Postgraduate
Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. at
Transport Nagar area in Sector 26, Fire brigade workers said that they had dug
much deeper than required due to which the entire shop collapsed and six people
were buried alive. Meanwhile, UT inspector general of police RP Upadhyay
visited the accident site to take stock of the situation. However, no official
from the UT administration has visited the spot. He said Prabhu Nath of
Purvanchal Welfare Association said compensation should be given to the victims
and the Chandigarh administration should make strong policy to avoid such
