The Lok Sabha yesterday resumed discussion on the Union Budget.

Participating in the discussion, Charanjit Singh Channi of Congress alleged that the Budget has disappointed people. He questioned the relocation of Dr B R Ambadkar’s statue in Parliament House. Mr Channi alleged that stepmotherly treatment has been given to Punjab in this Budget. He said, the budget has nothing for the people of Punjab who were affected by to floods. He alleged that the Budget is intended to save the Government. Mr Channi also questioned the Government as to why it has not increased the wages under MGNREGA. The House witnessed heated arguments between Congress MPs and treasury bench members over some of the remarks made by Mr Channi.  
 
Rebutting the allegations of bias against the budget, Sunil Tatkare of NCP said that maximum development in his state Maharashtra took place during the NDA regime. He said that it has been the tradition of the house to praise the good works of the government even by the opposition members but this time opposition is criticising the budget just for the sake of criticism.

Saugat Roy, MP from TMC alleged that it is the most divisive budget in recent times. He



claimed that many features of the budget are taken from the manifesto of the Congress party and the education loan scheme to the students is an exact copy of a West Bengal government scheme. He also raised the issue of stalling the dues of the West Bengal government by the central government.

Baijayant Panda of BJP termed the Union Budget as historic. He said, the budget is wide in scope and deep in addressing the reforms that are necessary to take the nation forward. He said, India has consistently remained the fastest-growing economy in the world. Hibi Eden of Congress alleged that the budget has denied employment opportunities to the youth of the country. He claimed that the budget of MGNREGA has not been increased. Alok Kumar Suman of JD(U), Bastipati Nagaraju of TDP, Rajiv Rai of Samajwadi Party, Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (UBT), Arun Bharati of LJP, Dhairyasheel Mane of Shiv Sena, Malvinder Singh Kang of AAP, Sudhakar Singh of RJD, Mian Altaf Ahmed of National Conference, Raja Ram Singh of CPI(ML), C N  Annadurai of DMK, Chandan Chauhan of RLD and M Mallesh Babu of JD(S) participated in the discussion among others. Later the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day.
