Ahead of Winter session of Parliament beginning on Monday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has urged members to follow parliamentary decorum in the House taking inspiration from the debates and discussions of Constituent Assembly. Mr Birla hoped that MPs will contribute to the tradition of positive and constructive debates. He appealed to the MPs to establish highest standard of decorum in Parliament.
Replying to a question on the issue of reservation, Mr Birla said political parties may make allegations and counter-allegations on it, but no government has ever tried to
tamper with provision of quota. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been firm that reservation is still required for underprivileged and poor sections of society.
Ahead of Constitution Day to be observed on Tuesday, Mr Birla rejected claims made by some quarters that Constitution is under threat. He underlined that Constitution belongs to people of the nation and every section of society has faith in it. He maintained that Constitution should not be seen through the narrow prism of politics.
