Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan who is leading the Indian delegation to the 136 Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union currently going on in Dhaka called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina late this evening. 

According to Press Secretary attached to Prime Minister's Office, Mahajan said India attaches the highest importance to the relations with Bangladesh and believes that a strong, stable and prosperous Bangladesh is in its interests. 

She also said India stands committed to strengthen this relationship on the basis of friendship, trust and understanding for the mutual benefit of the people of both countries and the economic development and prosperity of the



region.On the issue of terrorism and militancy, 
Mahajan said India supports Bangladesh's policy of zer0-tolerance to extremism and terrorism and stands by its fight against the menace. 

Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh's close and historic links with India would continue to guide bilateral relations between the two friendly neighbours.

Earlier in the day, addressing delegates on the Assembly's theme of 'Redressing Inequality: Delivering on Dignity and Wellbeing for All", the Speaker said many of the existing inequalities have global linkages and therefore solutions should be found collectively and unitedly by the global community.
