Lonar Lake in Buldana district of Maharashtra, which was formed by a meteorite impact about 50 thousand years ago, has been declared as a wetland area under the 'Ramsar Convention'. It has been declared as the 41st place in the country and the second ‘Ramsar site’ in
Maharashtra.
This announcement will lead to better conservation of Lonar Lake, as Ramsar Convention is bound for conservation for wetlands. The importance of the lake's ecosystem and biodiversity is rising due to the algal population and other microorganisms in the lake and flora-fauna around the lakeside.
