In Uttar Pradesh, large number of people rushed to Agra from Lucknow with families and friends to visit world famous love monument Taj Mahal as Lucknow Agra Expressway was thrown open for public yesterday.
There was no ribbon cutting by ministers or populist announcement as ambitious Agra-Lucknow Greenway expressway was thrown open for the public, without much fanfare. Initially only the light vehicle will ply on this highway.
The heavy vehicle and bus will be allowed to operate on this route within a month's time, a senior government official said. Agra-Lucknow Expressway, which stretches 302-km, was the most ambitious project of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. It has been completed in a record time of 23 month and has cost of
Rupees 13,200 crore.
The six-lane Greenfield expressway was inaugurated amid a spectacular air show of eight fighter aircraft on November 21. The inauguration was done on eve of the 78th birthday of Mulayam Singh Yadav where the entire Yadav family including Ram Gopal Yadav, Shivpal Singh Yadav and their family members were present giving a picture of unity in the family.
However the vehicle will not travel the whole distance up to Agra. At Shikohabad, around 80 kms from Agra, the traffic will be diverted to National Highway because of the on-going construction of rail over bridge. It is the only bottleneck we are facing is this ROB. Once it is complete, the whole stretch will be thrown open for public, a senior official said.
