Lucknow's iconic Tunday Kababi faces dearth of meat after UP govt order, remains shut

The iconic Tunday Kababi is synonymous with Lucknow but it seems like the ban ordered by Uttar Pradesh government on illegal meat shops and slaughterhouses is hitting it hard. The shop on Wednesday had to be shut down due to the scarcity of meat in the city.

As per reports, the outlet located at Akbari Gate was shut as it serves buffalo meat and shopkeepers claimed that there was the meat wasn’t available all day. However, the other outlet in Aminabad which serves chicken and mutton remained open. As of now, there has been no effect on the supply of mutton and chicken.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had on Wednesday sought an action plan for closure of slaughter houses and a “blanket ban” on cow smuggling in the state. Senior officials across the state’s 75 districts were directed to inspect the



slaughter houses. UP Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar had said that the priority of the state government is to close the illegal slaughter houses.

The District Magistrates in the state have been directed to form 10-member committees under their chairmanship to ensure that illegal slaughter houses are closed. The proximity of the slaughterhouses to residential areas and religious places is also to be kept in mind before taking a call on whether they should be allowed.

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) had on Wednesday swung into action and sealed nine meat shops in the state capital.

Adityanath’s order resonated with the BJP manifesto which said that all the illegal slaughter houses would be closed and there would be a blanket ban on all the mechanised slaughter houses.
