The Madhya Pradesh police confirmed that the blast on the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train was an act of terror. 'It was an Improvised Explosive Device blast,' said IG Law and order Makrand Devaskar.
Meanwhile, the police have trapped a militant in Uttar Pradesh. It is suspected that he may be involved in the train blast.
At least 9 persons were been injured in the incident. The incident occurred in the 59320 Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train in Madhya Pradesh's Shajapur area on Tuesday.
The incident took place at 9.50 am near the Jabdi
station.
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh said that all angles are being investigated. Passengers said that there was a suitcase which exploded and fire followed which triggered the panic. The Ralway police S P of Indore, Krishna Veni said that after initial reports of a short circuit, claims of a suitcase bomb were also received.
Several teams of Railway officials, the Intelligence Bureau and Anti Terrorism Squad were present at the site. The incident comes in the wake of several agencies probing sabotage angles in train accidents that have taken place across the country.
