The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has extended its stay against the Central Government order regulating cattle trade in the country until further orders.
Hearing a batch of petitions against the May 23 order by the Union Government that put restrictions on cattle trade for slaughter, the court granted an interim stay of four weeks.
The Supreme Court later extended the stay nationwide. When the case came up for hearing before the High Court Bench comprising
Justices MM Sundaresh and N Satheesh Kumar yesterday, central government standing counsel pointed out that the Supreme Court is seized of the matter and asked not to proceed with the case in the High Court Bench.
However, applicants strongly protested seeking to continue hearings by the court.
The judges later granted extension of the stay until further orders and posted the case for further hearing on the 22nd of this month.
