At least 30 people have lost their lives, and 60 others were injured in the incident that took place at Sangam Ghat in Maha Kumbh, Prayagraj yesterday. Addressing a press conference, DIG Kumbh Mela Vaibhav Krishna said the incident occurred between 1 and 2 AM, when a huge crowd gathered on the Akhara route and the barricades were broken. He added that the administration quickly enforced the rescue operation after the incident, created a green corridor for ambulances, and transported the injured to hospitals.

President Droupadi Murmu has said that the stampede incident at Prayagraj Maha Kumbh is extremely sad. In a social media post, the President expressed condolences to the families of the devotees who have lost their lives. She prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured devotees.

Prime Minister Modi also expressed condolences towards the families of the people who have lost their lives in the painful accident which occurred in Mahakumbh. 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that he is deeply saddened on the tragic accident that took place at Maha Kumbh. In a social media post, Mr Shah expressed condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this accident. He said, the administration is treating the injured in hospitals.

Minister Yogi Adityanath said, Mr Modi spoke to him multiple times to inquire about the situation. He said, some devotees were seriously injured while crossing the barricades on Akhara Marg between 1 AM and 2 AM last night. 
 
Meanwhile, saints and seers of different Akhaaras today took Amrit scan at Triveni Sangam on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. Flower petals were showered on saints and seers. Earlier the bathing ritual of akharas was deferred due to overcrowding and the incident occurred at Sangam ghat. 
The second Amrit Sanan of Mahakumbh is underway and lakhs of devotees are taking the holy dip at Triveni Sangam. Mauni Amavasya holds significant religious importance, and the Amrit Snan on this day is considered highly auspicious. Over five crore people had taken the holy dip till 2 PM today. The Maha Kumbh Mela, recognized as the world’s largest religious gathering, commenced on 13th January and nearly 25 crore devotees had taken baths so far.

The railway administration has planned to run 190 special trains today so that people do not face any inconvenience. Talking to the media, the Chief Public Relations Officer, of North Central Railway, Shashikant Tripathi said, that after taking a bath, a large number of devotees come towards the railway station to return home.
