Mumbai: Monsoon session of Maharashtra Legislature will be held from June 27. A decision in this regard was taken in a cabinet meeting on Thursday. The cabinet also decided to set up 40 cattle camps in the drought affected areas. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde chaired the cabinet meeting at Sahyadri Guest House. Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who has requested his party to relieve him from the post, joined the meeting via VC (video conference).
At the end of the budget session in February, the government had announced it would hold the monsoon session from June 10. However, it has been postponed due to Maharashtra Legislative Council elections to be held on June 26 for the Mumbai Graduates’ and Mumbai Teachers’ constituencies. Model code of conduct (MCC) is in place for biennial the elections. An
official said that the chief minister has instructed the relief and rehabilitation department to set up 40 new cattle camps in the drought affected areas in Marathwada.
“In addition to this, a detailed review meeting over the relief works for the drought affected areas will be held soon. In that meeting, the measures will be taken for tackling the water crises and fodder issues,” the official said. Marathwada, which has eight districts, has been witnessing severe drought this year. As per state irrigation department as on today (June 06,2024), 20.64 per cent water was left in the dams of all six divisions of the state. “Marathwada region, which has eight districts, has only 8.37 per cent water left in all reservoirs,” the official said.
