Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has convened a meeting of leaders of all parties in Mumbai today to discuss the Maratha reservation issue. The community is demanding reservation in government jobs.

The agitation turned violent on Wednesday following a bandh in Mumbai and surrounding areas. State BJP Chief Raosaheb Danve said, the state government is

committed to providing reservation to the community and hence passed an ordinance to the effect. However, he said, the court put a stay on the decision.

Slamming the Opposition, Mr Danve said, the Congress and the NCP dilly-dallied over the issue for years, but the present government has taken steps to provide reservation to Marathas.
