Mumbai: Maharashtra Government has announced increased cash rewards for its athletes who won medals at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Girish Mahajan said the rewards have been increased by almost five times so as to encourage athletes and attract youngsters towards sports.

Accordingly, gold medalists from the state will be awarded 50 lakh, silver medalists will get 30 lakhs and bronze winners will get 20 lakh rupees.



Similarly, the coaches for gold medalists will receive 12.5 lakh, for silver medalist - 7.5 lakh and for bronze medalists - 5 lakh rupees.  

Out of the 14 athletes from Maharashtra who participated in CWG 2022, 7 athletes won eight medals. These include Sanil Shetty (table tennis), Chirag Shetty (badminton), cricketers Smriti Mandana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav, weightlighter Sanket Sargar and Avinash Sable who won silver in steeplechase.
