The Maharashtra Government yesterday approved to set up the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation. During a meeting of the state cabinet held in Mumbai in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the government has said that the initial capital funding for this corporation will be 100 crore rupees. Out of the three lakh kilometers of roads in Maharashtra, about one lakh kilometers consist of state and major highways that come under the purview of the Public Works Department.

The state cabinet has also approved a proposal to use ICT or solutions based on Information and Communication Technology for solid waste management in all civic bodies across the state. The proposal to be undertaken under the Swachh Bharat Mission



(Urban) is likely to cost around 578 crore rupees.

Maharashtra Government has decided to award scholarships to students who wish to pursue research studies in recognised foreign universities in the fields of Marine Science, Marine Ecology, Oceanography, Marine Biology, Marine Fisheries, Marine Biotechnology, Microbiology and Biodiversity. The government has approved to earmark an amount of 31.5 crores rupees for this purpose. Accordingly, scholarships will be awarded to 25 students annually for the next three years.

The state cabinet has further approved to set up a 350-bed regional psychiatric hospital in Pune’s Shirur taluka at the cost of 146 crore rupees.
