Mumbai: With civic polls around the corner, the Maharashtra Government has decided to increase the number of wards in the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. The state cabinet that met in Mumbai on Wednesday approved the increase of nine wards, from 227 to 236 for the upcoming polls. The decision was taken in view of the rise in
population of almost four percent since 2001 when the number was last revised.
Meanwhile, in view of the increased workload, the cabinet today also approved the proposal to create the post of Additional Development Commissioner in the Directorate of Industries.
