Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held his first cabinet meeting at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai last evening after assuming charge. Shiv Sena ministers Eknath Shinde and Subhash Desai, Congress ministers Balasaheb Thorat and Nitin Raut and NCP ministers Chhagan Bhujbal and Jayant Patil attended the meeting. Briefing reporters, the Chief Minister said he will monitor the implementation of all State and Central schemes for farmers.
Talking to press late night, Thackeray announced that the first decision of the newly formed cabinet was to approve a sum of Rs 20 crores, of the total Rs. 606 crores
sanctioned for conserving the Raigad Fort, the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century, the previous government had disbursed Rs. 20 crores.
About the farmer crisis in state, he said the new government was not looking at piecemeal approach to resolve issues related to cultivators, who have suffered crop losses in unseasonal rains in October. He said he does not want to provide any negligible assistance but whatever they do, will be a grand and satisfactory provision for farmers. He also assured that a major decision in this regard would be announced in coming 2 days.
