Mahavir Jayanti, the birth anniversary of 24th and last Jain Tirthankar Lord Mahavir is being celebrated across the country today.
It is one of the most sacred days for Jain people. The followers of Lord Mahavir celebrate this festival by chanting prayers, offering Prasad and participating in chariot processions.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu have greeted the people on this occasion.
In a message, the President said that Lord Mahavira’s
message of peace and non-violence has enriched our cultural heritage. He said, on this auspicious day, the people should resolve to ceaselessly strive for harmony in our country and across the world.
In his message, the Vice President said, that Bhagwan Mahavir’s messages of non-violence, truth and universal compassion illuminated a path of righteousness and honesty. Mr Naidu said, his teachings are universal and therefore relevant to the entire world.
