Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday said majority of Muslims were in the favour of banning the practice of triple talaq. He was speaking to reporters in Mumbai while visiting ‘Hunar Haat’ organised by Ministry of Minority Affairs.
On the sidelines of the function, Naqvi said triple talaq is un-Islamic and is bad tradition which is not a Hindu or Muslim issue. He said that the government wants to empower the women and it cannot leave out Muslim women in empowerment
programmes.
Naqvi said majority of Islamic communities and groups have welcomed the Centre's move to criminalise triple talaq.
The exhibition ‘Hunar Haat’ is being organised at the Islam Gymkhana near the Marine Lines in Mumbai from January 4 to January 10. The theme of the exhibition is ‘craft and cuisine ka Sangam’ where 21 stalls of cuisine and sweets have been set up. 100 artisans including state and national awardees from 21 states will be participating in the exhibition.
