The Congress on Friday appointed B Mahesh Kumar Goud as the president of its Telangana unit, replacing outgoing chief and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Goud as the President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect, a statement issued by AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said.

The party acknowledged and appreciated the significant contributions of Revanth Reddy.

Goud's appointment came following a meeting

between Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, with Revanth Reddy and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, where they discussed potential organisational changes in the state.

While there was no official statement on the meeting's agenda, it was widely understood that the discussions centred around the selection of a new president for the Telangana Congress unit.

Revanth Reddy had continued to serve as the Telangana Congress chief, even after becoming the Chief Minister late last year.
