West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that she would stay all night at Nabanna, the West Bengal state secretariat, to monitor the approaching cyclone Dana. She also urged people to take precautionary measures and cooperate with the administration and the police.

"I will stay in Nabanna tonight until the landfall of Cyclone Dana," Banerjee said, adding she would personally monitor the situation.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for 10 districts in Odisha and West Bengal as Cyclone Dana approaches the coast at a speed of 12 km per hour. The cyclone is expected to make landfall on Thursday night.

During a press briefing, she shared that nearly 1.6 lakh people have been evacuated from

flood-prone areas across the state, with 83,537 people relocated to 851 relief camps.

Banerjee pointed out that helplines are operational 24/7, and officials are stationed district- and block-wise to closely track the storm. She urged residents to remain cautious as the cyclone nears the coast.

The chief minister provided emergency helpline numbers for those in need: 033-22143526 and 033-22141070. She also warned against the spreading of misinformation, saying, "Do not panic and be careful. There's a lot of false information circulating. Don't fall for it or be provoked."

"I’ve asked officials to stay in Nabanna until the landfall process is complete. Please cooperate with the police during evacuations, and don’t be afraid," she added.
