Bengaluru: There seems to be no end to vaccination-related errors across the country. The family of a man who died eight months ago received a phone call and SMS informing them that the person has been 'successfully vaccinated'.

The 55-year-old realtor identified as Raghvendra Rao had died due to post COVID complications in May last year. The family of the man said they were shocked by the behaviour of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

"First, they called on my elder brother's phone saying he (Rao) was due for vaccination. We told them that he died months ago. However, they again called saying he was successfully vaccinated. How can they vaccinate someone who is dead,"  V Suresh, the deceased man's brother asks.

The family said they repeatedly reminded BBMP officials about Rao's death but they did not bother to check

and update their record. The family said the attitude of the officials was 'heartless'.

According to records, the deceased Rao was 'vaccinated at Thalaghattapura sub-centre.

"When Rao died, I submitted his Aadhaar to get a death certificate. Aadhaar is linked to everything. How can they mention the Aadhaar number of a dead person? There is no proper communication within the BBMP," the report further quoted Suresh as saying.

Suresh said he tried to get in touch with BBMP officials but there was no response. Meanwhile, Thalaghattapura vaccination centre staff attributed the goof-up to a technical error on the part of the data entry operator.

The staff further said they just update the status and can't do anything on the portal.  A senior official has said that the matter will be looked into.
