The Manipur government has extended the ban on internet services in the state for five more days amid reports of fresh violence in some places. The state police, on Saturday, issued an order extending the internet ban until October 26, citing concerns about law and order and the possibility of violence.
This comes days after Chief Minister N Biren Singh assured the public that the restrictions would be lifted
shortly.
However, the latest order by the state police chief cites reports of incidents such as "violence like confrontations" involving the public and security forces, attempts to mob elected members' residences, and civil protests in front of police stations.
The order also states that there is apprehension that some anti-social elements might use social media extensively to spread images, hate speech, and video messages inciting the public.
