A fresh incident of violence was reported in Manipur's Imphal as miscreants set an abandoned house ablaze this afternoon. The targeted house was located next to the new building of the Advanced Hospital in the capital city.
No injuries or casualties were reported as there was no one present inside the house at the time of the incident. Prompt action from the Manipur Fire Services personnel prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring houses and the hospital.
However, following the incident, an agitated mob took to the streets, disregarding the orders of the security forces. In response, a joint team of state and central forces resorted to firing gas shells in an attempt to disperse the crowd.
The situation took a turn for the worse when the mob retaliated with stones and catapults. One individual sustained a leg injury, and three others fainted during
the clash. They were swiftly rushed to the Advanced Hospital for immediate medical attention.
After a few minutes of chaos, the security forces were able to regain control of the situation. Nevertheless, the incident has instilled fear among patients and staff members at the hospital.
According to sources, ongoing operations by the armed forces in the region have resulted in a complete electricity shutdown in the area. Additionally, there are suspicions that the unidentified miscreants intended to target the hospital, which currently accommodates numerous patients.
The fresh round of clash came a day after Union Minister of State for External Affairs R K Ranjan Singh’s house in Imphal town was vandalised by a mob which also tried to burn it down. Two other houses were burnt and clashes between the Rapid Action Force of Manipur and a mob erupted in Imphal.
