In Uttar Pradesh, another patch-up bid between the warring factions of the Samajwadi Party fell flat yesterday as a three-hour meeting between Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and party patriarch Mulayam Singh failed to make truce.
The talks made little headway, with the Akhilesh camp asserting that there would be no compromise on what it called core issues. Expelled general secretary of the party Ramgopal Yadav, who supports Akhilesh, said in New Delhi that there would be no

compromise between the two factions. Both the factions have submitted letters to the Election Commission, staking claim to the party name and the election symbol, 'Cycle'.
Later in the evening, both of them met again but there was no official announcement from either side. In view of it, suddenly there was talk of a peace formula between them. And, after three hours, the things were back on square one. However, the senior minister Azam Khan is still hopeful of the truce.
