Mehbooba Mufti Says Centre Has Turned J&K Into A Big Jail

Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said the BJP government that is “unable to fight the Chinese which has occupied huge land in Ladakh” is using all its powers to oppress Kashmiris and have turned Jammu and Kashmir into a jail.

Mehbooba Mufti was talking to reporters after she was not allowed to visit Kothibagh police station, where many of her party leaders and workers are being held. The party leaders were arrested on Thursday morning after they tried to stage a protest against land laws issued by the Centre on October 27.

Mehbooba said the BJP government has made situation in J&K such that it doesn’t allow anyone to talk. “Journalists cannot talk, civil society cannot talk, and politicians cannot talk,” she said. She said if people of J&K wouldn’t fight it together, these people would usurp everything of this place. “They are not allowing anyone to talk. Their approach is communal,” she said. She said they have converted Jammu and Kashmir into a big jail.

"The BJP government is attempting to get our property through every unlawful technique. We challenged it in Jammu yesterday. Here they didn't permit fight and captured my gathering chiefs," she said. "Consistently the BJP says the circumstance is typical and they don't permit a previous boss clergyman to visit a police headquarters. They can't battle the Chinese which involved huge number of kanals of our property yet they are utilizing all capacity to stifle individuals of J&K," she said. She said the BJP government needs to plunder the assets of J&K and it is out to wage social



hostilities against Kashmiris and Dogras. 

She said she isn't a Twitter government official that she would stay silent. "These requests from Delhi consistently won't go on without serious consequences. One day you state simply following 22 years of administrations government worker will be compelled to resign, following day you think of home law and third day you lay hands on the land and issue requests to get it. This won't work. On the off chance that you have so much force, at that point proceed to constrain out the Chinese out of Ladakh. You are not taking even the name of China," she said.

“We will not remain quiet. We will sabotage all your designs to loot Jammu and Kashmir and we will go to any extent,” she added. “There is total lawlessness in Jammu and Kashmir. People of J&K and Ladakh have seen the BJP’s ugly face and their designs on J&K. The BJP doesn’t care about Dogras and Ladakhis and Kashmiris they don’t give any regard. The BJP wants to grab land of J&K and hand it over to big industrialists,” she added.

Under the new land laws, notified on October 27 by the BJP government, no domicile or permanent resident certificate is required to purchase non-agricultural land in J&K. Earlier, Article 35-A of J&K Constitution, revoked on August 5, 2019 amid communication blockade and military siege, placed prohibitions on the sale of land to those who were not state subjects. The central government has even empowered an army commander to declare any area in J&K strategic for operational and training requirement of the armed forces.
