In Tamil Nadu, the Regional Met Department has issued a red alert for Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Ramanathapuram districts today.
 
According to the earlier prediction, the prevailing upper air cyclonic circulation in South Bay of Bengal which was expected to form into a low pressure trough continues to be a cyclonic circulation over south west Bay of Bengal off South Srilanka Coast. It continues to hover above 3.1 kilometres mean sea level bringing heavy rains to the Southern districts.

The Southern coastal districts namely Tuticorin,



Ramanathapuram, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi districts experienced heavy rainfall yesterday. Tuticorin district experienced very heavy rains and recorded more than 20 to 25 cms of rain in the last 24 hours. As the red alert warning continues for another 24 hours, educational institutions have been closed as a precautionary measure for tomorrow in seven districts.

Almost ten districts have been given heavy rainfall warnings. The District Administration has been alerted to take immediate steps to face any challenging situation.
